Framing Begins

Andrew and I started framing today! It was soooo nice to actually see some materials standing. We had to wait a week longer than expected because of a mix up with our floor joists. I had two quotes on floor joists - we (me and the people at the store) thought they were both for engineered wood I-beams, which take about three days to get. Nope - they actually quoted on web trusses, which are more expensive and have about a three week lead time. We talked them down to two weeks and I think we'll make that time up when we start doing electrical, plumbing and HVAC. You can just feed all of your tubing, wires, etc. right through the webs without drilling holes. Way, way easier.

Here's a pic of me doing my best "Crowsnest Pass Quantum of Solace" impression a la Paslode impulse nailer. Cool tool. No air hoses or cords - just a small gas cylinder and a battery. You get about 1200 shots on one cylinder! Excuse the mess in the kitchen - we just moved in and we're doing a few renos.

We managed to get the sill plate on and we set up about 1/3 of the joists. If we can get the hangers (which the buggers didn't supply), we should be able to finish the floor tomorrow. We're so lucky - it's barely been below zero and it's supposed to be upwards of 14ยบ on Monday. Looks like the temperature takes a dive after that but fingers crossed.

Are you going to use that fancy nail gun to track down some car wreckers!?
